Dr.K.P.Parameswaran Pillai started his carrier as lecturer in Electrical Engineering Department and rose to the position of Professor in Electrical Engineering in 1971. He took his M. Tech and P.hD from I.I.T. Kharagpur. A special mention is to be made here that his doctoral programme was completed within a record time of 2 years.
 The fully established Govt. Engineering College, Kannur in its present premises was completed under his leadership when he was the Principal of this college. He built up the LBS Centre for Science and Technology during 1982-1988 as its chief executive. He was Principal College of Engineering, Trivandrum in 1991. He was the founder Director of School of Technology & Applied Sciences, M.G. University and in that capacity he established the first University Engineering College in Kerala at Thodupuzha. He was the Executive Secretary & Director of ISTE ( Indian Society for Technical Education ) New Delhi during 1996-1998. He worked in an International Steering Committee at Quebec City to evolve a World Council for Colleges and Polytechnics.
He was special Private Secretary to Minister Education, Govt. of Kerala during 2000-2001. He was in charge of College Arts Club for several years, staged several dramas in college. He has also written, directed and acted in several dramas outside the college for amateur theatre. He is also known author in Hindi literature and has written poetry and novels in Hindi.
