- A Unique Event
College of Engineering Trivandrum witnessed a unique event in its Platinum Jubilee year. On August 8th, a panel of 11 alumni of CET met the final year students and discussed in detail about the various job avenues available to Engineering graduates. The alumni belonging to the Electrical Engineering branch of 1984-88 batch volunteered to share their experiences in their respective careers, during their journey in life after graduation. It was a great opportunity for an intergenerational interaction. Mr T N Krishnakumar and Mr B Pramod both well placed in Dubai based companies explained about the different kinds of jobs that a graduate engineer is offered overseas. Mr K Raghavan who is the Deputy Chief Aircraft Engineer in Air India emphasised on the role of Engineers in the aviation industry. Mr Ajith Gopi who is a senior Engineer in the Solar Photo Voltaic division of ANERT shared his views on the emerging trends and research in the field of renewable energy. Mr Manoj C, Chief Engineer (Electrical) elaborated on the different aspects of jobs available in ONGC and the merits and demerits of each. The chance to work in a field which is related much to what you learned in the Engineering curriculum is an enjoyment in itself as explained by Mr William Vinayan Raj of KSEB. Mr Prasad Narayan who has started a firm of his own, Ms Latha K, a recipient of President’s award in BSNL, Capt Riyas with 25 years of experience in shipping, Mr Sudesh, Head of a business organisation Centre and Dr Bindu G R also participated. They were all of the opinion that a strong foundation of Engineering subjects and a great attitude were the keystones to their success and said that the life in CET helped them immensely to climb the corporate ladder. In this event jointly organised by CET Alumni Association (CETAA) and Career and Placement Unit (CGPU), the final year students who interacted with the alumni were very happy that they could meet their seniors in person and get to know about the variety of fields in which openings are available for fresh Electrical Engineers. They also expressed their gratitude towards the alumni for their extremely good gesture and for having given them fruitful suggestions and advice regarding their future careers. It was a unique experience when the students were able to see their possible futures through alumni, and alumni remembered their pasts and what they experienced as students. Principal of CET, Dr S Sheela said that the alumni of CET are always in the forefront in contributing in many ways to the alma mater and Prof Sivakumar Dean appreciated their efforts in this regard.
