The Class of 1996 held their 20 years after reunion on 06th August 2016 at CET. The students of the 1992-96 batch of the College of Engineering, Trivandrum celebrated their 20th year of alumni graduation from their college on Saturday, the 6th of August 2016. The complete batch including all seven branches of engineering which consists of more than 500 came together from around the world along with their families to gather at their alma mater. The event which was named ‘ORMMAKAL’ started at 9:30 AM at the CETAA hall with registration and an informal meeting of old friends. The formal function began with a welcome address, followed by introduction of the Chief Guest, Padmasree G. Sankar and a speech by him. This was followed by Guruvandanam wherein they paid tribute to their teachers who were presented with mementos in remembrance of their support and guidance to all of them. As part of their ‘Helping Hand’ initiative, cheques were presented to three of the present batch of students of CET to sponsor the complete college tuition fee for their full under-graduation program. Also cheques were given out to two of their batchmates who are in dire need of their help and support. The souvenir for the reunion, also called Ormmakal, was then unveiled followed by felicitations and a vote of thanks. The vote of thanks was then suddenly interrupted by a strike which was planned in advance but generally unexpected by many.

A group of them shouted slogans and led the alumni in a procession inside the main building to relive the good old days at CET. Around 100 plant saplings were then planted in the campus under the ‘Go Green Initiative’ as part of their wish to leave something fruitful for our CET. The old students also took a walk around the campus to refresh their memories of their college. After a photo session, they  gathered for lunch at in front of the open auditorium, to share old memories with their teachers and meet as many of their friends as possible. After lunch, some of them boarded their old CET college bus to travel to Hotel Samudra (KTDC) at Kovalam for an evening of fun, entertainment and catching up. The evening session started at 7 p.m. with a surprise song by a group of girls. Later other batchmates and their kids joined in with songs and dance. There was Cinematic Dance by a troupe and a group dance by their batchmates. They were accompanied by an Orchestra. Dinner was served at the venue for all participants. The night ended with more than an hour of DJ hits and an all out dancing by everybody. It was an evening to enjoy, remember the good old days, renew old friendships and make new ones. Though many of them have been in touch through social media and personal communications, this reunion was an opportunity for many of them to actually come together and see each other for the first time in 20 years.
